What does it cost for an eye exam?
$100 for the exam for patients aged between 19-64. This exam includes imaging of the back of the eye with the Zeiss Ultra Wide Field Clarus 500 Retinal Camera. We are proud to be one of the first clinics in Canada to offer this technology. The Clarus 500 enables us to monitor your eye health even more comprehensively than ever before. If you are 65 years of age or older, have diabetes or other medical conditions that have eye health implications most of your fees are covered by MB Health. We charge a supplementary fee of $25 that covers Ultrawide Field Imaging of the back the eye with the Zeiss Clarus 500 Retinal camera.This fee also covers any OCT imaging that is required. Anyone 18 years of age or under will be covered by MB Health. We do not charge supplementary fees for this age group.
What does it cost for a contact lens fitting?
If you are being fitted at our office for the first time, the fees start at $30 and will depend on the type of contacts you need. You will typically be fitted with a lens and wear it for a trial period. The doctor will then reassess to determine if the lens is suitable or if changes need to be made.
If I have an eye infection or acute eye problem can you treat it?
Optometrists in Manitoba can diagnose and treat most acute eye problems and prescribe medications when necessary. These visits will not be treated as routine eye exams and will be covered by Manitoba Health. If the doctor determines your condition requires Retinal Imaging or OCT scan then a $25 fee will be applied.
If I feel I have an eye emergency what should I do?
It is best to come to our office and let us determine what the problem is. Often times we can diagnose and treat, but if a specialist is required we will immediately refer to the on call Ophthalmologist who speciailizes in your particular issue. If we are unavailable we recommend you go immediately to Misericordia Hospital Urgent Care.
Do you sell eyeglasses?
No, but you will be given a spectacle RX at the conclusion of your visit. We are conveniantly located next to Lenscrafters for your eyeglass needs.
Do you sell contact lenses?
We do sell contact lenses and specialize in all your contact lens needs. We offer the most modern types of contact lenses at competitive prices starting at $160 for a year supply( Coopervision Biofinity monthly spheres).
I have diabetes. Do I have to pay for my exam?
MB Health covers most fees at our office for systemic disease that can have eye health complications. We want you to have someone drive you to the appointment because we will dilate your pupils to have a thorough look at the inside and back of the eye. Retinal photos are taken to help record and counsel you on any prevailing problems. Retinal Images will be taken to help record and counsel you on any prevailing problems. There is a supplementary fee of $25 for this as MB Health does not cover this essential part of the exam. This fee will also cover any OCT scans requested as necessary by the doctor.
OCT, or Optical Coherence Tomography is a breakthrough technology that enables us to look at your eye in a manner that does not exist in traditional examination methods. It provides details about your ocular structure and produces a cross sectional image of your retina, similar to an MRI. Examining your retina in detail is extremely important because any changes or abnormalities can reveal signs of disease that affect not only your eyes but your overall health. We can direct bill to Blue Cross of Manitoba, Sunlife, Manulife, Great West Life, Johnson Group, Chamber of Commerce.
